Five years ago, war spilled out over Redwood forest. It was simply a machine that came to destroy the forest for wood and building area. But to the animals living there, it was a monster beyond recognition. The hardest was for the small rodents, the mice and the rats: the machine was slow, but destructive. Their homes were destroyed. Half the forest torn up. Forced to stick together, the rats and mice traveled further away, deeper into Redwood to hide.

        But then the machine stopped. The attacks stopped. Plans were canceled to the destroy the forest. Finally, after months of terror, the rodents could rest! But Redwood had changed: they had ran into an unrecognizable part of the forest, somewhere further away they'd never been before.

        Now feeling the machine had finally stopped its attacking reign, the rodents split themselves up into two groups at first: The Mice and the Rats, their territories separated by a small brook. The two settled down into their new, but much smaller, homes, and at last there was some peace. As long as each group kept their distance and stayed on their side of the brook, things were fine.

        But now, five years later, faint rumbles can be heard in the distance - sometimes quiet, sometimes louder, but always there. Rumors are spreading because of this.
        The mice think the rats may be behind it and are trying to use the machine to their advantage, something like trying to take the mice's land. After all, the sound does come from the rat's direction, and rats have a reputation of being evil and sneaky.
        The rats think the mice are trying to kick them out of the forest by starting trouble and blaming the machine on them. The mice have always despised us! claim the rats. After all, the mice did get the larger, lusher part of the forest, whereas the rats were left with the smaller, rougher side.

        Tensions are rising as each group knows little of each others' intentions. What is the truth behind these rumors, and will the machine really come back again one day?
