Olive sat on the fallen tree, letting her tail hang down into the cool water. She watched her reflection down below in the rippling brook, distorting her features as it went. She wondered if any of the mice had came here and did the same thing.
Speaking of mice, she glanced over at the mice's territory. She didn't see any, but she wished the mice and rats could be friends. Maybe Olive could become friends with the mice, then show all the other rats they could get along. It could work. Maybe. Or what if Olive gave gifts to the mice and asked them to be friends? No, that'd never work...
Olive sat, watching the water, letting her thoughts roam free.

Edica wasn’t sure why she was bothering to gather so closely to mice territory. What had beckoned her to the fallen tree that lay over the steady flow of water? She wasn’t sure, but she was here now. She poked her dark beige head out of a clump of leaves and took a quick glance around. Edica did spot another rat, sitting on the tree but they seemed to take no notice of her. She held her tail carefully above the foliage, stealthing through to the edge of the water. There, shining under the sun, were a patch of berries. Her and her siblings took turns gathering food and such for their family. In this case, it was Edica’s turn. Reaching out with her nimble fingers, she began to pluck the bush clean. Tucking the berries into a makeshift pouch made of leaves sewn together slung over her shoulder, she glanced toward the rat on the tree again. She edged closer to the log. Reaching into her pouch, she grabbed a single berry and hurled it toward the blue furred rat. As soon as it left her palm, she turned to leave, unsure if it would hit its target or not. A large, lumpy object bumped Olive's back, sending her into a fear frenzy. Deep in thought, the berry had startled her quite a bit. Her heart skipped a beat, and she leapt into the air, eyes wide. She instantly feared the worst - a hawk, a human, a fox, a cat, a wild dog, the machine - something was attacking her! What else could it be? Without even pausing to think or see what hit her, her wild rodent instincts kicked in, and she bolted off the tree, heading back for rat territory. She slipped on the log and almost ran right off into the water, but all that mattered was escaping. She instantly thought about Slicer - what would he do if she was gone? Would they ever find her body? Olive was not quite thinking right at the moment - after all, no predator would have thrown something at its prey - but she of course hadn't even considered that yet. She just needed to get to the safety of a tree, which was exactly where she was heading. morri
