Blessed and cursed with boundless curiosity and intelligence, Valerian is the very definition of a troublesome mouse. He willingly sticks his nose where it does not belong, and he persistently asks questions when they go unanswered. He has a short attention span, yet, while he may flit around between subjects and activities, he will fixate upon certain things, ideas, or creatures and refuse to let go.
Valerian has an open mind, allowing him to see things as they are and as they could be. He is not one to discriminate, though he may be considered rude by asking questions to clarify any rumors about certain species, rates, or mice. He hates confrontation, and he will avoid getting physical by any means necessary. He is very weak and knows it, and he would rather hide or outsmart his aggressor.

backstory
The Redwood Forest is all he has ever known. His family moved there generations ago for some reason they would never tell him, despite his persistent questioning. They were researchers on his mother's side, and from a young ago, Valerian would glue himself to his grandfather's side, hoping for a story or the opportunity to help with his work. His parents did not approve of his antics and dreams, especially not after his sister, Rosemary, strayed too far into the wasteland created by the Machine. The monster that took her life, however, was a bird, but that was reason enough for his parents to shut down the idea of following in his grandfather's pawsteps.
Of course, Valerian never listened to his parents, and he continues his apprenticeship beneath his grandfather.

Valerian's bloodline stems from that of the Eurasian Harvest Mouse. He is quite small at only a hair over two and a half inches. While this can put him at a disadvantage in a fight, it is the perfect size for fleeing through small crevices that his pursuers would not fit in. His reddish brown fur is short and scruffy, and his underbelly is white. His tail is a little longer than his own body, and his eyes are beady black.
